Do you like Ryan Adams? Damien Rice? Well, then you just might like what you hear in this singer-songwriter from North Wales, Al Lewis. Let’s go back to 2007 when it all started. Al Lewis released his first two singles, and a Welsh language EP that spent some time on the Welsh language charts. In March of that year Lewis co-wrote and performed the song Llosgi (Burning) on the televised Welsh show, Song for Wales competition which, won him the best singer-songwriter category and coming in second overall. By this time, a year has gone by with much success already, Al Lewis released his follow up EP, One Way Love Affair in 2008; which  garnered much attention on BBC 6 Music. In 2009, he and his band released a Welsh language album that spent several weeks at number one on the Welsh language charts. That same year in collaboration he released, Skin and Bones EP with fellow Welsh singer-songwriter, Sarah Howells of Paper Aeroplanes (featured 8/21/12). This EP sparked and paved the way for the writing and musical creation of the full-length album, In The Wake, released in 2011; becoming one of Amazon’s top 10 Folk albums. This album is quite amazing because it gives me all that I love about singer-songwriters with it’s impeccably well written lyrics, splendid harmonies and delightful sound. A busy summer of touring followed including performances with Anais Mitchell, Kitty Daisy & Lewis (featured: March 20, 2011) and The Webb Sisters. The year culminated with Al performing a 12 date UK tour alongside Irish singer/songwriter Eleanor McEvoy, appearing at Swn Festival in Cardiff and being shortlisted for the inaugural Welsh Music Prize. He is currently on a two week tour of Germany with Paper Aeroplanes. If you fancy singer-songwriter music then this would be totally up your alley.
